No One’s Really Sure How to Regulate This Hemp Food Craze

WHEAT RIDGE, Colo. — At Joshua Hudson’s smoothie shop, a bohemian outpost called Twisted Smoothie in a small strip mall here, customers can add a 15 mg or 30 mg shot of cannabidiol, or CBD, to their blended drinks for a few extra dollars.

Jonathan Miller, general counsel for the U.S. Hemp Roundtable, a Lexington, Ky.-based coalition of hemp companies, said he’s confident that state and federal law will come to embrace CBD. “The good thing is, we know we’re going to win — that CBD is too big to fail,” he said, adding that the FDA clearly wants to find a solution. “It’s just that while we’re in this waiting period, it’s a source of stress.
